Well #3 is currently offline due to the power failure that occurred on Easter Sunday (04/16/17). On Monday (04/17/17), the Village’s well contractor conducted an investigation on the well. During that investigation an arc flash occurred, resulting in damage to the electrical cabinet located inside the well house.
Due to the damage of the electrical system, new components must be manufactured, and are expected to take 6-8 weeks for delivery.
Well #3 will be undergoing emergency maintenance beginning the week of May 1, 2017. The existing motor at the bottom of the well will be removed and replaced with the spare Type H motor purchased in 2016. The expected time frame to install the new motor is 7-12 days.
Since April 17, the Village has been operating on well #4 and has been able to meet system demand. Supplemental volume from well #1 may be required if demand exceeds the output volume of well #4. To date the Village has used well #1 for 2-3 hours a day on average. Well #4 water continues to be softened through the Village’s Water Treatment Plant.
The Village may put in place temporary watering restrictions if needed. Notifications for any watering restrictions will be sent to Village residents via the Village Website and CodeRED.
Spring Hydrant flushing has been postponed until further notice.
Water Main Breaks
On 05/6 and 05/07 the Village experienced water main breaks at 3830 Franklin Avenue (Saturday) and 5106 Commonwealth Avenue (Sunday).
These breaks did require the Village to run well #1 for approximately 12 hours on Sunday to “catch up” on the water lost during those breaks. Higher amounts of iron and hardness were observed in the distribution system over the weekend and early into the week as the system continues to distribute that water.
The Village has returned to modified operations utilizing well #1 sparingly and water quality is expected to stabilize through the end of this week.
Well #3 Status Update
Removal of the well pump and motor was completed on 05/05. Installation of the new pump/motor is expected to begin on 05/11. Temporary electrical repairs to bring the well back online are expected to begin next week. Electrical testing and flushing of the well should begin late next week with a target timeline to bring the well back online within the next 7-10 days.
