The contractor will be on-site tomorrow morning to the pour the remaining west sidewalk and any miscellaneous sidewalk on Lawn. The contractor will then focus on filling in all brick paver areas for the winter as they will be installed in the spring.
Crews will be present at both the 45th and 46th Street intersections tomorrow. One crew will be focusing on completing the minor sewer work that was delayed by the ComED utility pole removals. The other crew will begin removing portions of the intersection for replacement. Crews will be on-site removing and replacing portions of the intersection through Saturday, weather permitting. They will also be pouring sidewalk at the intersections if time permits.
The contractor will also be focusing on filling in areas adjacent to driveway aprons and sidewalks to eliminate any trip hazards for the winter.
We have received a few questions about snow plowing on Johnson Avenue. Public Works crews were very cautious when snow plowing on Monday. Snow plows require that the blade at the front of the truck be directly in contact with the pavement. This technique works well when plowing finished concrete, but presents problems in unfinished areas such as the intersections. The plows can be badly damaged if they come in contact with an uneven surface such as a manhole frame and lid. Upon the completion of the intersections, snow plowing will continue as normal. If snow arrives before the intersections are completed, Public Works crews plan to bring out a smaller piece of equipment to aid in removals in this area.
