2019 Roadway Program - Installation of New Clausen Water Services

The contractor has completed the installation of the 8" water main. They will be performing structural tests today and water quality tests early next week. Once all tests are completed, they will begin connecting each home on Clausen Avenue to the new 8" water main. The connection will be from the new 8" water main to the buffalo box in the parkway in front of your home. The connection will require that each home lose water service for ~1 hour, pending any construction delays. The contractor will knock on your door prior to loss of service, and again after service is restored. 

Residents with Lead Water Services (Partial Lead Service Line Replacements (PLSLR))

Residents with lead water services who do not plan to replace the remainder of the water service, from b-box to your home, will receive a door hanger with the following flushing instructions. 

  1. Remove the faucet aerators from all cold-water taps in the home
    • To clear the aerator of debris, unscrew the screen and separate the individual parts
    • Remove any sediment on the screen and other parts
    • Resemble the screen and parts and re-attach the aerator
  2. Beginning at the lowest level of your home, fully open the cold water taps for each fixture in your home
  3. Let the water run for at least 30 minutes at the last tap you open
  4. Turn off each tap, beginning with the taps at the highest level of your home. Be sure to run water in bathtubs and showers as well as faucets.
  5. Do not consume tap water, open hot water faucets, or use ice maker or filtered water dispenses until flushing is complete.

The Municipal Services Department will also drop off a sampling bottle and directions. Please follow the directions and provide the sample as soon as possible. Additional testing may take place depending on water quality results. Village staff will keep in contact with you throughout the testing process.

Residents with Copper Water Services

Residents with copper water services should open the water taps at the lowest level of your home for 10-15 minutes. The contractor will flush the new water service before it is connected as well. There is no additional flushing or testing required for copper water services.
