Changes to LRS Refuse and Recycling Services

As an essential service to the public, LRS intends to continue to provide weekly pickup, as scheduled. They are, however, making changes to waste and recycling collection to reduce the risk to their drivers.  As a result, the collection of bulk items, white goods, and e-waste will be temporarily suspended. Effective immediately there will be no collection of loose material, bulk items (mattresses, furniture, etc.), appliances, electronic waste, or other large items at the curb. To be clear, this also includes all waste and recyclable items placed outside of a resident’s cart. Exceptions to this policy will be bags that are stickered (garbage, or yard waste*), and user-owned containers that are also stickered. For more information go to: https://www.lrsrecycles.com/coronavirus-residential/

LRS stickers are required for bulk waste and yard waste bags*, effective April 1. LRS stickers can be purchased at local retail outlets such as Village True Value Hardware and Mariano’s in Western Springs, and Jewel in Countryside. They will not be available for purchase at Village Hall for the time being, due to precautions in place as a result of Covid-19. Textile and Electronics Recycling During Covid-19:
The Village of Burr Ridge and eWorks will be reopening the electronics drop-off and textile recycling location on Monday, April 20, 2020, located at the Burr Ridge Public Works Facility, 451 Commerce Street. This location will be open Monday to Friday, 7 am to 3 pm. Textile items such as clothing, sheets, bedding, towels and other household textiles are accepted.  No wet or heavily soiled items please.  Also, all clothing/textile items must be bagged.

Waste haulers and recycling centers have been finding an inordinate number of gloves, masks and other PPE in the recycling stream.  These items should be placed in their regular trash.

More information about the refuse & recycling program, including bulk sticker requirements, is at: https://wsprings.com/127/Recycling-Refuse-Yard-Waste and https://www.lrsrecycles.com/westernsprings/.

*Yard waste collection begins on April 1, and runs through November 30.
