Fire Explorers Post

Program Details

This is a program for young adults who are interested in becoming a firefighter. The group participates in both fire and Emergency Medical Services training every other Tuesday evening along with one Saturday per month. They are taught at the level of a beginning firefighter as well as an EMS first responder. The program is run through the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services and is led by a firefighter / paramedic who serves as the post advisor.

Activities & Participation

The explorers participate in trainings and the Explorer Post officers also go through leadership training. The explorers support the department at events like Gathering on the Green and the annual pancake breakfast. They also provide additional staffing for the department for events like severe weather alerts.

Cadet Fire School

& Training

Every year, the explorers attend Cadet Fire School in Champaign, Illinois. This four-day event includes truck / engine operations, search and rescue, and vehicle extrication, along with live fire. They also attend other training programs throughout the year.
