The Municipal Services Department will be conducting targeted hydrant flushing in the Ridgewood subdivision on October 24, 2017 in cul-de-sacs and "dead end" sections of the distribution main. The purpose of the flushing is to help improve water quality in sections of the subdivision which do not receive high turnover of water usage. Postcards will be mailed to Ridgewood residents the week of October 9th.
Flushing is anticipated to take place from approximately 9:00 am until 2:00 pm.
Due to the nature of hydrant flushing, sediment in the pipes will be disturbed during this process and flushed out through the hydrant. Residual sediment may remain in the main or service line after the flushing is complete. If you experience discoloration, the Village recommends that you run the cold water tap in the lowest location in your house until the water runs clear. This process may take several minutes for all of the water to clear from the length of your service line to the street.
Residents may wish to refrain from doing laundry during the flushing period and until after they have flushed their own service line to ensure the water is clear.
