2020 Prospect Avenue - Construction Update 8/13/2020

The contractor is scheduled to pour the east side curb and gutter tomorrow, weather permitting. They will also begin pouring driveway aprons, which will continue into next week. The contractor will begin the removal of the east lane pavement immediately after aprons have been poured. Please do not utilize driveway aprons in any capacity until the east lane has been replaced and notification has been given to you via a future update. Concrete requires specific curing time and driving on it prematurely can greatly effect quality and lifespan.

Tree Removals

The contractor will be removing an ash tree, located in in the southwest corner of the Walnut and Prospect intersection. Removal of this tree is required as it is currently planted in the turn radius of the existing curb line. Additionally, ash trees all over the Village are being removed due to the emerald ash borer (EAB) infestation. Two smaller trees on the south side of the Reid and Prospect island will be removed due to their existing health and in order to prepare the area for green infrastructure improvements. Tree replacements will occur on the Reid/Prospect island at the close of the project. The Northern Catalpa "Keebler Tree" is not scheduled for removal until the east lane nears completion. Additional information on that removal will be available as it approaches. Staff is continuing to gather feedback on tree replacement and memorializing options. Please contact Casey Biernacki with the contact info below with any feedback.

Parkway Stairs

The Village is removing all stairs or steps located in the Village parkway. The parkway is the area of publicly owned right-of-way between the sidewalk and the curb line. Residents wishing to retain stairs in the parkway may do so, however the following criteria is required:

  • Any repairs required for the stairs/steps must be completed by the homeowner at their cost
  • Homeowners must sign a temporary construction easement and indemnification agreement
  • Homeowners interested in retaining the stairs and following the above criteria should notify staff before August 21st, if you have not already done so
