47th Street Pedestrian Bridge Construction Begins

The Tollway issued a press release (9/7/21) that provides more information about the pedestrian bridge project, and they've created a project page for the pedestrian bridge project. Go to: for more information.

The Tollway also shared the following statement: 


Central Tri-State Tollway (I-294) Pedestrian Bridge Project

In coordination with the Village of Hinsdale, the Village of Western Springs and the Western Springs Park District, the Illinois Tollway is building a new pedestrian bridge over the Central Tri-State Tollway (I-294), to maintain a convenient connection between parks and communities for pedestrians and bicyclists. 

The pedestrian bridge is being relocated from its current location near Ogden Avenue to a new location adjacent to 47th Street selected by the Villages of Hinsdale and Western Springs. The new pre-fabricated, steel bridge will be ADA accessible with an new aesthetic design and landscaping restoration and improvements developed with guidance from the communities along with the Western Springs Park District.  

The project is part of the Central Tri-State Tollway Project with work scheduled to begin after Labor Day and be completed in 2022.
