Central Avenue Reconstruction

Posted on: November 12, 2021

[ARCHIVED] Central Avenue - November 2021 Project Update

As you may be aware the Village has been planning the reconstruction of Central Avenue from Burlington Avenue to 47th Street in addition to the installation of new storm sewer on Central Avenue and Elm Street from Lawn Avenue to Central Avenue.

The project is receiving federal funds for the roadway reconstruction and funding from the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD) for the storm sewer separation. The Village has been working with IDOT for the past year on completing the Phase II design documents with the intent for IDOT to let (bid) the project in January 2022.

The new storm sewer has a proposed outfall to Flagg Creek located south of the 47th Street bridge and requires coordination with the Illinois Tollway. The Village was informed at the end of October by the Illinois Tollway that the necessary land and easement processing would not be completed until spring 2022. The Village held a meeting with IDOT in early November, and the proposed letting date for the project has been adjusted from January to April 2022 pending the completion of the storm sewer easements.

Additional information will be posted once necessary easements have been secured and the project has a confirmed letting date from IDOT. Once a contractor has been selected, the Village will schedule a resident meeting approximately one month prior to the start of construction to provide residents and overview of the anticipated construction impacts and staging.
