The Department of Fire and EMS is pleased to announce that U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski, D-3rd of Western Springs, has secured a $64,000 grant from the Department of Homeland Security for the village. The money will be used to buy four to six thermal imaging cameras so firefighters can better see flames and trapped victims in smoke-filled rooms. The grant also will allow the fire department to purchase specialized washing machines and dryers to clean gear that has been used to respond to fires and incidents involving hazardous materials. "Our first responders play a critical role in keeping our communities safe. Providing them with the equipment they need to do their jobs is one of my highest priorities," Lipinski said. "I'm proud to announce this grant that will improve safety and cut costs at the Western Springs Department of Fire and EMS, providing better service to area residents and businesses." The grant is awarded through the Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.
