Central Avenue Project Update 11/1/22

Work on the Central Avenue Reconstruction and Storm Water Improvements project is still in the early stages of construction.  There are several utilities that are in the process of being relocated and have impacted the project’s schedule.  The project general contractor, Berger Excavating, will be moving forward with the storm sewer installation from Flagg Creek and along 47th Street as the utilities get relocated.

Currently, Berger Excavating has finished all the utility exploration on 47th, Central Avenue and Elm Street.  Silt fence has been installed along Spring Rock Park to protect against any construction site runoff.  Tree and brush clearing along 47th and Central have been completed. AT&T’s contractor, Bongi Construction, is currently working on relocating fiber optic cables and ducts on Central. They have additional relocations to complete on Elm. Once they are complete they will remove the steel plates and patch the asphalt pavement.

The project contractor is anticipating mobilizing this month to install the storm sewer outfall and pipe underneath 47th street just east of Commonwealth Drive.  This work is expected to take several weeks to complete. Additional storm sewer work on 47th Street and Central Avenue cannot proceed until this storm sewer crossing and outfall is constructed.

There may be sanitary sewer repairs performed on Central Avenue and 47th Street over the coming weeks. We’ll provide an update on the website once the start date is known. We'll also provide notice to impacted residents if the sanitary sewer repair work does move forward.

Roadway reconstruction of Central Avenue is no longer expected to begin this year. Additional information will be provided to residents in the Spring on schedule and timing of Central Avenue road reconstruction.

We will make every attempt to keep you informed of construction progress and activities.  Thank you to everyone in advance for your patience and cooperation throughout the course of the project.  If you have any questions or would like additional information, please do not hesitate to reach out to our Resident Engineer Sean Ludwig of V3 Companies at 630-768-2151 or via email at sludwig@v3co.com.
