In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed Public Law 87-726 designating May 15th as Peace Officers’ Memorial Day, and the week in which May 15th falls as National Police Week. This year on Friday, May 15th, the men and women of the of the Western Springs Police Department ask that you remember to lower the flag you fly in your home, agency, or business that day as we recognize the service and sacrifice of our nation’s law enforcement officers.
Officers from the Western Springs Police Department will be participating in the 14th Annual Peace Officer Memorial Ceremony on Saturday, May 9, at the site of the proposed Cook County Peace Officers Memorial located at the Cermak Woods Forest Preserve in Lyons, Illinois. The ceremony will honor peace officers killed in the line of duty.
