Many water meters throughout the Village were last replaced in 1996. While a number of water meters have been replaced/upgraded throughout the years, the replacement of the original water meters is long overdue. After nearly 30 years the water meters have reached or exceeded their useful life. Last summer Village staff researched replacement options and requested proposals from water meter manufacturers and installers. Ultimately, the Village partnered with Water Resources, Inc., a water utility company out of Elgin, Illinois, to replace all water meters 7 years or older, and all endpoints with Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI).
While preconstruction activities are already underway, the actual replacement of meters will likely begin at the end of July and continue through Spring 2024. Water Resources will begin the replacement process in the northwest corner of the Village (likely Old Town North) and work toward the south through Ridgewood. Please see the map for an estimated workflow through the Village by subdivision.
Water Resources will reach out to property owners via a letter sent in the US Mail. The letter will have the Village logo on it (see sample letter). Once a letter is received, property owners will be prompted to make an appointment with Water Services Company, the installer for Water Resources. At the time of the appointment, an installer from Water Services Company will arrive in a truck with their company logo (see left below) to complete the water meter and/or endpoint replacement.
More information will be made available in the coming weeks on this webpage and in other Village communications. Stay tuned.
